05 Jul Cote d’Ivoire secures loan for fibre rollout
The government of Cote d’Ivoire has obtained a EUR110 million (USD128 million) loan to help it complete the rollout of a 7,000km fibre backbone network. The 20-year financing facility has been provided by the French Development Agency (Agence Francaise de Developpement, AFD) to Cote d’Ivoire’s National Agency for Universal Telecoms Service (Agence Nationale du Service Universel des Telecommunications, ANSUT). A report from Agence Ecofin says the network rollout work is due to be completed by end-2018, with around 5,000km of fibre having already been deployed. The government says the new network will improve availability and quality of telecoms services, while also helping to reduce costs for consumers.
