21 Apr Egypt: Telecom Egypt inks national roaming, transmission deals with Orange Egypt
Telecom Egypt (TE) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Orange Egypt for a national roaming agreement under which it will provide 2G, 3G and 4G services over the latter’s infrastructure. In a press release confirming the development, TE noted that the MoU falls under the framework of the mobile licence it signed with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in August 2016. In order to ensure readiness to roll out mobile services for customers in good time, TE said it has already started the implementation of its fully converged Business Support System (BSS), integrating functions such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Billing and Point of Sales. Alongside these activities, TE confirmed it is rolling out its own radio network ‘in order to decrease its dependence on national roaming provided through existing mobile operators’.
As well as the national roaming deal, TE also revealed that it has concluded an MoU with Orange Egypt for the provision of its infrastructure transmission services; the EGP2.5 billion (USD138 million) deal will run for five years, starting from 2018.
Ahmed El Beheiry, TE’s managing director and CEO, said: ‘We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that TE is ready to launch commercial [mobile] operations as swiftly and smoothly as possible. This agreement signals the strength of our commercial cooperation with Orange Egypt. We have reached commercial terms on 2G, 3G and 4G access as well as transmission services.’
