07 Dec Egypt: Vodafone has initiated the procedure to acquire additional telecom frequencies
Ayman Essam , the director of the corporate government relations department at Vodafone Egypt, revealed that the company has already filed a formal request with the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to acquire additional telecom frequencies.
According to his statements, “the frequencies that we have already obtained are sufficient for the current generation of 4G services, however, we will need new frequencies for the next two years, 2018 and 2019, in view of the expected increase in number of 4G users. They will also be needed to provide new applications to users . “
The filing by Vodafone Egypt of its request to the NTRA, comes a few days after the statements of the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Yasser El Kady. In an interview with the dailynewsegypt news site , the head of the national telecoms sector, which revealed the availability of new telecom frequencies, said operators wishing to buy them should be able to pay the bill in dollars. Vodafone said this condition is not an obstacle.
Additional telecom frequencies, the telecom companies had shown the need when acquiring the 4G license. They had explained that they would need it to improve the quality of services offered to the population.
