In November 2019, Ethiopia would like to launch a satellite for communication and broadcasting in space. The operation will be carried out with the help of China.
A partnership agreement was signed for this purpose in Addis Ababa on May 27, 2019 between Solomon Belay, the Director General and the Ethiopian Institute of Space Science, and Han Chinping, Vice President of China Rocket Company. .
The design, development and manufacture of the satellite will be the fruit of a collaboration between Ethiopian and Chinese engineers. China has also provided training to Ethiopian technicians for the success of this $ 8 million project. $ 6 million is provided by China while the rest is financed by the Ethiopian government.
As part of the partnership agreement, it is also planned to identify the potential users of the satellite and related activities that will be assigned to it. This phase should begin during the month of June.
Beyond sovereignty in telecommunications, the Ethiopian satellite should also contribute to job and wealth creation.
