Zimbabwe hopes to fast track privatisation of TelOne and NetOne

The government of Zimbabwe says it wants to fast track the privatisation of state-owned telcos NetOne and TelOne. New Zimbabwe quotes Finance minister Mthuli Ncube as saying: ‘Information on the offer will be publicly advertised both locally and globally in order to attract the best investors who bring the right technology and make sure that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows into the country.’ The government hopes to announce a sale within the next six months. TelOne is the country’s incumbent fixed line operator, while NetOne competes with Econet Wireless and state-backed Telecel in the mobile market.
