March 20, 2019by myles

Orange Burkina Faso – which launched LTE-A services in capital city Ouagadougou in January this year – has extended its footprint to five new locations, including Bobo-Dioulasso, the second largest city in the country. Other new locations now covered by the cellco’s 4G infrastructure include Koudougou, Koubri, Banfora and Manga.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Orange was awarded a 4G licence by the Ministry of the Development of Digital Economy and Posts (Ministre du Developpement de l’Economie Numerique et des Postes, MDENP) on 15 January 2019. The cellco paid XOF40 billion (USD69.5 million) for the 15-year concession and committed to pay a further XOF40 billion to renew its existing 2G/3G licences.
