According to the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) surveys, the cost of 1 GB in mobile broadband is 30 times cheaper in Egypt ($ 1.12) than in Equatorial Guinea (34.80 $) where the price is so prohibitive that we can really speak of restricted access.
Among the countries with the most affordable mobile internet are Sudan ($ 1.2), Nigeria ($ 2.74), Rwanda ($ 2.8), Burundi ($ 3.3) , or Cameroon and Niger (both at $ 3.48).
Among the most expensive are the DRC ($ 20), Angola ($ 16.3), Guinea Bissau ($ 15.66) or Zimbabwe ($ 15).
Some disparities are difficult to explain at the technical level. For example, the GB costs $ 3.48 in Niger and next door, Chad, $ 12.18.
Also note the surprisingly high rates of South Africa ($ 10.41) or even Ivory Coast ($ 8.78).
The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) is an initiative to make the Internet more affordable around the world. It has 80 member organizations from all countries, civil society and the public and private sectors. It works closely with governments and local actors in Africa, Asia and Latin America on policy and regulatory reform through a combination of advocacy, research and knowledge sharing.
