More Africa NewsSierra Leone: telecoms regulator sets floor price for minute of call

March 9, 2020by myles0

Since March 6, 2020, the floor price of 590 leones ($ 0.061) has been applicable on the minute of calls to all mobile operators. The National Telecommunication Commission (Natcom) of Sierra Leone calls on Orange, Africell, Qcell and Sierratel to respect it.

To this end, it sent a letter to the Chairman and CEO of each of the four telecom operators on March 3.

According to Maxwell Massaquoi, CEO of Natcom, the new floor price is applicable to all voice calls, which includes promotions, bonuses and bundles. It complies with article 36 (b) (22) of the 2020 finance law, and all the goods and services tax calculations will be made on the basis of this law.

The new floor price is 60 leones lower than the old one which was 650 ($ 0.067).

By instituting this new floor price, the telecoms regulator not only wants to contribute to healthy competition in the national telecoms market, but also allow all operators to display substantially the same tariff for the benefit of consumers.
