According to a recent report on “Measuring Digital Development: ICT Price Trend released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), indications are that Botswana, Nigeria And Seychelles are on track to meet the ITU’s Broadband Commission affordability threshold target of 2% of the monthly gross national income.

The threshold target is for access to entry-level broadband services and the report indicated that the three nations would be joining countries such as Mauritius and Gabon that could have the most affordable basket of services by 2025.

The ITU report did raise the caveat that compared to a global picture, Africa nations still do have, on balance, the least affordable mobile data, fixed-broadband and even mobile voice services.

It also conceded that having a reduction in the cost of access does not mean a level-playing field spread geographically even within the same country.
