Umar Danbatta, the current Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) – the substantive boss – of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has been reappointed to the post by the nation’s President – Mohammed Buhari.
NCC is the Nigerian government’s regulatory agency for its telecommunications industry. It is also tasked with the development of the crucial broadband and data services sectors.
In a statement, the spokesman for the Nigerian Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy confirmed the reappointment of Danbatta, saying the Minister, Isa Pantami well recommended him. Danbatta’s continued service would reinforce the government commitment to ongoing improvements in the sector. It should also help in the consolidation of the gains already made in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy of Nigeria.
Mr Danbatta must also ensure the protection of the interest of consumers and investors in the telecommunications industry.
