The African Telecommunications Union (ATU) has reportedly entered an understanding with Ericsson to fast track the growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Africa.
 
According to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by both organisations, it is agreed that they both will work together to improve Africa critical technology infrastructure, with the immediate area of collaboration being spectrum harmonisation and scalability.
 
According to Mr John Omo, the Secretary-General of the African Telecommunications Union, the organisation’s collaboration with Ericsson should contribute to the transformation of the continent’s economy to a knowledge-based one.
 
On its part, Ericsson, represented by Mr Fadi Pharaon, the organisation’s president for the Middle East and Africa affirmed that the main focus of its collaboration with the ATU is in the effective management of spectrum for the benefit of African societies.
