From next month, Algeria will connect to a new submarine fiber optic cable. Brahim Boumzar the Minister of Telecoms revealed it on September 7th. This will be the 4 th infrastructure broadband telecom that will tie the country after the SEA-ME-WE 4, the Medex and Orval.

Algerian Post and Telecommunications Minister Brahim Boumzar announces Algeria’s connection next month to a fourth submarine fiber-optic cable.

The statement of the boss of the telecoms sector took place on September 7, 2020 in Sidi Fredj, on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of an agreement between Algeria Post and the Tourism sector, on the generalization of the interbank payment card and the deployment electronic payment terminals (TPE) within tourist establishments.

The 4th cable “will strengthen the data capacities already held by the country through the three cables, which are operational and in use, namely the Sea-Me-We 4; the Medex connecting, from Annaba, the Algerian fiber optic Internet network to the international network connecting the United States of America to Asia; and the Orval / Alval connecting Algiers, Oran and Valence in Spain, ” said Brahim Boumzar.

Brahim Boumzar’s announcement comes a few weeks after severe disruptions to Internet connectivity in Algeria. A situation which is not new in the country, but which this time prompted the arrest of the Minister of Telecoms by the Head of State, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for a final solution.
