In accordance with its ambition to offer its customers a better telecom experience MTN Zambia will build a fiber optic network which will link Lusaka to Mongu, on the Namibian border. ZTE Corporation has been entrusted with the work which will improve the high speed bandwidth.

Mobile operator MTN Zambia has signed a partnership agreement with Chinese technology company ZTE Corporation. The agreement, revealed on October 2, 2020, covers the construction of a fiber optic network that will stretch from Lusaka, the Zambian capital, to the border with Namibia.

ZTE Corporation says it will provide MTN Zambia with a state-of-the-art custom optical transmission network solution, utilizing the ZXONE 9700 G2K system that will enable the Zambian subsidiary of South African telecoms group MTN to provide high-speed bandwidth at- over 100 GB.

The technology company will also offer MTN Zambia a full range of equipment with high bandwidth, low power consumption and small size, to fully meet its requirements for high availability, high network reliability and high integration for network scalability to a new generation.

Bart Hofker, Chairman and CEO of MTN Zambia, said that “  In our goal of creating a digital global hub in Zambia, we are pleased to announce the construction of fiber optic connectivity from Lusaka to Sesheke , to Mongu, which will make Zambia a major transit point to international destinations ”.

He stressed that the partnership with ZTE Corporation ”  will help us ensure the stability of our network and a cheaper Internet, so that our customers can connect with their family, friends and colleagues “.
