Telecom Egypt has announced that is constructing what it claims will be the country’s largest international data centre. In a press release regarding the matter, the operator noted that with the new data centre expected to be commissioned in early 2021, ‘with access to all the global submarine cable systems that land in Egypt,’ it will be the first in the country with the Uptime Institute’s certifications in the Design, Constructed Facility, and Operational Sustainability categories. The facility has also reportedly been granted the Tier III Certification of Design from the Uptime Institute following a rigorous assessment of all aspects of the data centre and its operations.
Telecom Egypt’s new data centre, which is located in Smart Village in west Cairo, will be connected to all ten of the country’s Mediterranean and Red sea subsea landing stations, giving the carrier access to more than 60 countries around the globe.
Currently, Telecom Egypt owns and operates six commercial data centre facilities in Greater Cairo and Alexandria. Looking ahead, the telco has said it will continue to select new sites to build additional data centres.
