The space vacated in June 2020 by UZI Zambia Mobile Limited has finally been filled by the telecoms regulator. Competition promises to be tougher in the Zambian market.
Beeline Telecoms Limited is the new holder of Zambia’s fourth mobile license. The announcement was made on Friday February 19 by the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Regulatory Authority (ZICTA). The new mobile operator is 100% Zambian. He will fight against MTN, Airtel and Zamtel.
According to Patrick Mutimushi (photo) the boss of the telecoms regulator, the government has persisted in its search for a fourth mobile telephone operator given the growing need for quality telecom services which is increasing across the country.
The telecoms license won by Beeline Telecoms Limited is the one obtained by Unitel’s subsidiary, Uzi Mobile Zambia Limited, in 2018. But it finally lost it in June 2020 following its failure to launch its services in the country despite everything. the facilities which had been granted to him by the government.
In order to prevent the new operator from also taking too long to launch its activities and harming the government’s ambitions for the telecoms market, ZICTA gave it six months to initiate its commercial launch. Otherwise, this license will also be revoked.
Through the new mobile telephone operator, the telecoms regulator would like to respond to several concerns, in particular improving the quality of services, revitalizing competition, creating jobs, improving the penetration rate of telecom services.
