Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) has appointed Arnold Mbwana as the company’s new CEO.

Mbwana has served as acting CEO following the resignation of Michiel Buitelaar in November last year.

In a statement, TNM board chairman Dr George Partridge said Mbwana has over 15 years’ experience in both local and international organisations in areas of finance, governance, enterprise risk management, audit and general management.

Partridge said Mbwana is a Certified Chartered Account (FCCA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and holds a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree from the University of Malawi.

He added that Mbwana also completed the International Executive Development Programme (IEDP) under Wits Business School and London Business School.

“He joined TNM in 2011 and has been central to TNM’s growth over the past 10 years. He has served as TNM’s chief audit and risk officer. We wish him all the best as he takes on this new challenge,” said Partridge.

Commenting on his appointment, Mbwana said his main vision will be to advance the business “while contributing towards growth of the economy through digital transformation.”

He said at the heart of his vision is a plan to build and grow partnerships with stakeholders from all walks of life, starting from local communities that they serve to corporate and government.

Mbwana said he will also push for a mobile phone or device in every home.

He was quoted by the local Daily Times newspaper as saying: “In line with our brand promise ‘always with you’, I want TNM to take a leading role in the development of a digital Malawi economy through the power of mobile technology to improve the livelihood of the people and the communities we serve.”
