In a telecoms market disputed with MTN, Airtel and Beeline, Zamtel is increasing its investments. The telecoms company has made broadband connectivity and mobile payment, new growth drivers, the new main axes of its growth strategy.

The Zambia Telecommunications Company Limited (Zamtel) announced, Wednesday, July 21, the start of work to expand the capacities of its core data network. The network upgrade will take a period of four weeks and is expected to be completed by August 20, 2021. Zamtel believes that this extension work is part of its continued efforts to ensure good availability and reliability of the infrastructure. Internet.

“  We are expanding the database network from 24 Gbps to 104 Gbps. In the process, we may experience intermittent interruptions of internet services during the upgrade period. In order to minimize the impact of disruptions, our engineers are working to maintain certain segments of the network and design the most efficient process possible in order to limit service interruptions  , ”explained Jason Mwanza the Technical and Technical Director. information from Zamtel.

Zamtel’s investment in its Internet core network is one of the many actions taken by the telecoms company since the start of the year to increase its appeal to consumers. It comes after the partnership signed last June with MasterCard to develop its Mobile Money offer. The incumbent operator is currently focusing on these two growth drivers to register more consumers.

According to Sydney Mupeta, Chairman and CEO of Zamtel, once the Internet network capacity extension project is completed, the incumbent operator will be able to offer four times higher data speeds and offer the customer an improved Internet experience.
