In Vodacom’s quarterly report published last May, Agence Ecofin learned that the telecommunications leader in South Africa has decided to embark on the design of a super-application with the help of ‘Alipay, a subsidiary of Chinese Alibaba. VodaPay is all set.
South African mobile operator Vodacom has officially launched VodaPay, its artificial intelligence-based super-app. The app is available to all smartphone users (Android and iOS) in South Africa, regardless of their mobile network.
“The VodaPay app will help us foster digital and financial inclusion in the country, especially for those who did not have access to financial services before. We want all South Africans, regardless of income level, network provider or location, to be able to use the app, ” says Mariam Cassim, Managing Director of Vodacom Financial and Digital Services.
It is a secure and transparent application that allows consumers to put money in their digital wallets and send it to anyone, in real time, or use it to make purchases through the application. From electronic commerce to the purchase of telephone, electricity, water or insurance packages, VodaPay integrates a multitude of services to make daily life easier for its users.
The application also allows small and medium-sized businesses to expand their activities by having a store. They create their own mini-programs in VodaPay and join some of the country’s brands already present on the application. Note that the mini-programs are free and incur no data costs for online businesses.
