TelOne, Zimbabwe’s state-owned fixed broadband and voice telephony provider, says it is seeking funding under the latest phase of the country’s National Broadband Plan to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. The operator plans to cover 100,000 homes with fibre over the next five years, while it will also use 4G LTE technology to offer wireless connectivity for another 150,000 households. TelOne says the deployment of FTTH will not only improve access speeds and availability, but it will also help to combat the significant problem of copper cable theft. The telco recently invested USD4 million to open a new data centre in Bulawayo.
