Gabonactu reports that Group Vivendi Africa Gabon (GVA Gabon), the country’s leading fixed broadband provider in terms of subscriptions, has announced a significant increase to the speed of its ‘CanalBox’ FTTH packages while keeping prices unchanged. The maximum download speed supported by the company’s ‘Start’ package, costing XAF25,000 (USD40.75) a month, has been boosted five-fold to 50Mbps while the ‘Premium’ plan (XAF45,000 a month) has been upgraded from 50Mbps to 200Mbps.

Speaking at a press conference in Libreville on Wednesday, GVA Gabon CEO Marc Civelli commented: ‘We wanted to meet all the digital development challenges faced by our customers, particularly in terms of their changing usage and growing needs, as well as the acceleration of the digital economy in Gabon. We are very proud to consolidate our leadership in the Gabonese market with these actions, and to prove that innovation is at the heart of our strategy.’

GVA launched FTTH services in Libreville in October 2017 and has since expanded the network to cover 140,000 homes and businesses in the capital and surrounding areas, while services at set to be launched in Port-Gentil next month. According to the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (l’Autorite de Regulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes, ARCEP), the company served 35,067 fixed broadband subscriptions at end-December 2021.
