Telecom Egypt and Etisalat Misr have announced the signing of six new commercial and strategic agreements, with the former saying the development represented ‘a step that comes within the framework of a joint cooperation between both parties to maximise their returns and support the development of new technologically advanced services to end users in the local market’.
Via press release Telecom Egypt said that with the total value of the contracts between the two companies being EGP17 billion (USD911 million), the biggest contract was a ten-year transmission agreement valued at EGP12.5 billion. Meanwhile, in terms of some of the other agreements to have been reached, one that was highlighted was a ‘Fiber to the site’ (‘FTTS’) deal, under which Telecom Egypt will provide ‘access services with ample capacities on optical fibre for Etisalat Misr’s mobile towers’.
Meanwhile, also of note was the confirmation that the two companies have signed a modification to a national roaming agreement they previously inked back in 2017. According to Telecom Egypt, this updated roaming deal will ensure its demand for ‘growing capacities’ on Etisalat Misr’s network during 2022 is met. Further, the updated deal is said to provide for ‘a more flexible and appropriate mechanism for the expiration of this agreement, which is due by end of year’.
Commenting, Telecom Egypt’s managing director and CEO, Adel Hamed, said: ‘We are very happy to have signed these agreements with Etisalat Misr, as this step fosters the cooperation between both companies to best serve their customers. Over the past years, we have been investing heavily in upgrading our backbone network and we are working on maximising the returns on our infrastructure investment and continue to serve the local telecom market.’ Meanwhile, Hazem Metwally, Etisalat Misr’s CEO, added: ‘We are proud of our collaboration with Telecom Egypt, which affirms our leadership within the technology and telecom fields, playing a vital role in leading the digital future in Egypt. We are keen on investing in further strengthening and upgrading our network to meet the needs of Egypt’s market for data usage … During the upcoming period, these agreements will play an integral role in the company’s solutions that will be introduced for the first time in the Egyptian market.’
