Raxio Group continues to expand its technological footprint across the African continent. Founded in 2018, the neutral data center builder and operator has already established a physical presence in six African countries including Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The builder and operator of neutral data centers Raxio Group announced on Friday, September 30, that it had started construction work on its first neutral data center in Mozambique. Named Raxio MZ1, the new level 3 infrastructure is located in the Beluluane Industrial Park (MozParks) in Maputo, the country’s capital. With a capacity of 250 racks, it should be commissioned in 2023.

During the laying of the foundation stone, Robert Mullins, Chairman and CEO of Raxio Group, said: “  More and more Mozambican individuals and businesses are joining the digital community every day, and this number continues to grow to a fast pace. This is why access to stable and critical environments in Mozambique is more important than ever  ”.

It was in November 2020 that Raxio Group announced its intention to build a data center in Mozambique. This initiative is part of its continental expansion started in 2019 which will see the construction of ten to twelve data centers on the continent to meet growing demand. The company currently operates a 1.5 MW facility in Uganda, with facilities under construction in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo and Côte d’Ivoire.

Once commissioned, the new facility is expected to strengthen the digital backbone and facilitate Mozambique’s digital growth. It will also provide much-needed colocation capacity for local, regional and international businesses while ensuring better internet connectivity at lower costs.
