Namibia’s market-leading cellco Mobile Telecommunications (MTC) has commissioned five new sites in the Ohangwena region to improve network coverage, New Era reports. The new 3G sites, which were activated in early September, are at Omhedi, Omahayi, Okatope ka Melila, Ondobe Yomunghudi and Oshiti sha Haihonya.
MTC executive Tim Ekandjo noted the deployment forms part of the operator’s 081Every1 network expansion project, launched in August 2017, which aims to expand MTC’s network coverage to almost 100% of the population through the rollout of 524 new sites, while upgrading infrastructure to 3G in rural areas and 4G in towns. Currently in phase three, the project has commissioned over 260 sites nationwide to date. ‘Coupled alongside our new strategy, this project is still of vital importance to us, and we will continue to invest in network upgrading, especially in rural areas,’ Ekandjo commented.
