Angola’s Minister for Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Media, Mário Oliveira, announced that the fibre optics connection between Angola and Zambia will commence operations on Wednesday. This milestone aims to strengthen technological ties with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Minister Oliveira revealed that initial testing will be conducted before the project progresses further. He also disclosed plans to establish similar connections with the Republic of Congo, highlighting Angola’s existing links with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Namibia.

During a meeting with a delegation from the SADC, Minister Oliveira discussed the ministry’s key projects contributing to the country’s development. Notably, Angola will soon provide satellite services to Zambia and South Africa, supporting agriculture, infrastructure, environmental initiatives, and migration control.

To facilitate cooperation and seek assistance from SADC countries, Minister Oliveira stressed the importance of engaging with representatives of public finance. He emphasized that robust systems for the continent and the world can be created through collective support and financial resources.

The minister further emphasized the ministry’s focus on staff training, public internet accessibility, modernization of public media, and the state-owned telecommunications company, Angola Telecom.

The SADC parliamentary delegation, led by Zambian MP Warren Mwambazi, visited Angola’s capital city as part of a training program on Public Finance Surveillance Procedure. The delegation expressed gratitude for the information received during the visit, which will inform their discussions and approaches to public account supervision.

In addition to the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, the delegation also visited the Court of Audit and the Ministry of Finance during their two-day visit.
