PowerTel Communications, a subsidiary of Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), says it plans to invest more than USD50 million to expand its fibre infrastructure and improve connectivity in rural areas of the country. A report from News Day says the upgrade work is being carried out in conjunction with improvements to ZESA’s electricity supply network and the expansion of its utility grid. PowerTel already operates a 3,000km fibre backbone network, which helps to link Zimbabwe through gateways in Botswana and Mozambique to submarine cables.
