Airtel Africa committed this week to creating creating socioeconomic value for Malawians through pro-growth modern digital services.

Dr Segun Ogunsanya, CEO of Airtel Africa Group, met with His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of Malawi, on Wednesday at Kamuzu Palace to explore the prospects of digitisation in Malawi.

Ogunsanya promised to support digital innovation and growth in Malawi and throughout Africa.

He said this support is in line with Malawi’s 2063 goal, which aims to improve connectivity for improved economic growth and job possibilities.

“The conversation also centred on Airtel Malawi’s ongoing investments in the country’s telecom sector, which aim to amplify digital capabilities, ultimately delivering significant socioeconomic value to all Malawians,” Airtel stated.

“Our mission is to catalyse transformation across the continent,” Dr. Ogunsanya said. “We hope to overcome the digital and financial divides by working with governments and stakeholders. Digitalisation has enormous potential to create economic opportunities in Africa.”

President Chakwera, on his part, stated: “We have mutually committed to expanding our government-business partnership with Airtel Africa. Through advancing modern digital services, this alliance strives to provide meaningful socioeconomic benefit to all Malawians.

“Malawi relies on digital technologies to produce new economic value, supporting sustained wealth and job creation as it strives to become a self-sufficient, industrialised middle-income country.”
