Senior government officials briefed Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on Monday, about the country’s top digital initiatives.

President El-Sisi met with the Prime Minister, Dr Mostafa Madbouly; Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr Amr Talaat; head of the Armed Forces Finance Authority, Lieutenant General Ahmed El-Shazly; and commander of the Armed Forces Signal Department, Major General Bakr Al-Bayoumi.

According to a statement from the presidency, El-Sisi was briefed on developments in the unified government network project, which connects the state’s administrative entities.

The President was also informed on measures to improve mobile phone services and expand Internet infrastructure to meet heavy usage demands, and planning for the future.

It’s understood that El-Sisi met separately with Madbouly and Talaat regarding various projects in the ICT sectors. These include the implementation of the ‘Digital Egypt’ initiative, which aims to improve government performance by providing digital services to the country’s citizens. Efforts to improve the design and manufacture of electronics in Egypt were also debated.

A Presidency spokeswoman said: “The meeting also discussed progress in efforts towards capacity-building of human resources and training in digital skills.”

El-Sisi also directed that modernisation efforts of the country’s telecommunications sector continue, notably through supporting and encouraging the expansion of Egyptian entrepreneurs in this field.
