Nigeria seeks AfDB support for state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure in the country

Adebayo Shittu, the Nigerian Minister of Communications requested on April 14, 2019, greater support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the realization of advanced ICT infrastructure in the country.
During a meeting in Abuja with Linda Amadi, the ADB’s Government Relations Coordinator, the representative of the Federal Government listed some flagship projects on which the country holds high hopes for its socio-economic development.
During the exchange organized by the African institution that wanted to identify the reasons for the low ownership of technology by African countries and propose a development strategy, Adebayo Shittu asked for help for the realization of the Trans-Saharan Africa. optical fiber.
The telecom infrastructure linking Nigeria to Algeria through Chad, Mali and Niger is approximately 4,500km long. In February 2017, the ADB had already approved the financing of its implementation. In Nigeria, it is expected to contribute to the densification of national data connectivity and enable the government to achieve its ambition to offer broadband to all Nigerians.
The Nigerian Minister of Communications has also sought AfDB support for the construction of the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NigcomSat) ground station, the national space agency that operates the country’s telecommunications satellites. A ground station would allow him to get the full potential of his equipment.
Adebayo Shittu also expressed the need for help from Nigeria in the implementation of the activities of the National Addressing System (NAS), such as obtaining the cadastral map needed at the scale 1/5000 and 1/10000 , a software developer to create a NAS data ecosystem infrastructure and integrated software / associated applications.
According to the Nigerian Minister of Communications, “Ensuring AfDB intervention on critical ICT infrastructure, including the development of R & D centers, IT assets and ICT Village, has been crucial in launching the country.
