DR Congo, Burkina Faso, and Benin join Alliance Smart Africa

The Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside Burkina Faso and Benin, is joining the BLOC Smart Africa, the €100 million venture capital fund dedicated to innovative and technological African start-ups.
BLOC Smart Africa is the result of a partnership signed on 16 May 2019 between Smart Africa Alliance, a public-private organization dedicated to Africa’s digital transformation, and Bamboo Capital Partners, the impact investment platform.
On the sidelines of the Afri’Up summit, dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurship and the promotion of young companies in the field of technology in Africa, held in Tunis from 24 to 25 September 2019, Aurélie Adam Soule Zoumarou, Benin’s Minister of Digital and Digitization, Hadja Fatimata Ouattara, the Burkinabe Minister of Development of the Digital Economy and Posts, and Augustin Kibassa Maliba, DR Congo’s Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and New Information and Communication Technologies signed a declaration of intent to this effect with Bamboo Capital Partners.
Djibouti has also expressed its will to join the BLOC Smart Africa. The country announced that it will formalize its commitment very soon.
At the signing of the partnership agreement with Jean-Philippe de Schrevel and Florian Kemmerich, the associate directors of Bamboo Capital Partners, Lacina Koné, Managing Director of Smart Africa, said: “BLOC Smart Africa will seek to identify and develop the next generation of pan-African technology champions in close cooperation with our members, partners and local technology ecosystems in the public and private sectors.”
