AMN Trusts Hughes Network Systems to Route Its Network Traffic in Madagascar and Nigeria

According to the latest statistics from the DataReportal data platform, the penetration rate of mobile telephone services is 87.7% in Nigeria. The same source indicates that Madagascar has a mobile service penetration rate of 43.8%. 

Telecom tower operator Africa Mobile Networks (AMN) will now use Hughes Network Systems’ “JUPITER™ System” terrestrial platform to route traffic from its 2G, 3G and 4G cellular networks in Madagascar and Nigeria. A signed partnership agreement between the two parties was unveiled on Tuesday, July 18.

Under the terms of the agreement, AMN will deploy Hughes Network gateways and remote terminals to connect several hundred satellite cell towers in Madagascar and Nigeria. This will enable its operator customers to reach more subscribers in hard-to-reach areas.

This initiative is part of the actions undertaken by AMN to strengthen its capacities in order to help mobile network operators to better respond to the growing demand for broadband connectivity in Africa. With that in mind, the company last week signed an agreement with satellite internet service provider Starlink. It also benefits from the financial and technical support of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Gilat Satellite Networks, Intelsat, Meta, Finnfund, BlueOrchard Finance, etc.
