Central African Republic: Telecel sentenced to pay 1.7 billion FCFA to PCCW

The Common Court of Justice and Arbitration of Abidjan condemned the telecom company Telecel Centrafrique to pay the sum of 1.7 billion Fcfa to the Chinese company PCCW Global Ltd SARL, specializing in the supply to telecom operators of technological solutions for voice and data services.
The Court has handed down its verdict in the case between the two parties since April 2018. PCCW Global Ltd is asking Telecel to pay a bill of several million FCFA.
In the event of non-payment, it is not excluded that PCCW Global Ltd may introduce a procedure for the attachment of receivables against Telecel.
According to the Ohada Uniform Simplified Collection Act, this procedure gives PCCW Global Ltd the right to seize tangible and intangible personal property of the telecom company if it has doubts about its ability to repay its due. The Chinese company could indeed lean towards this solution because Telecel which had recognized the claim due to PCCW Global Ltd had not been able to settle it, opting for legal proceedings.
Telecel is currently the second telecom operator in the CAR in terms of market share, behind Orange and ahead of Moov and Azur. The telecom company already provides 3G + to its consumers.
