East Africa: Underwater probe and definition of DARE1 cable route completed, deployment can begin


Djibouti Telecom, Somtel and SubCom are announcing the completion of the underwater probe and route for the Djibouti Africa Regional Express 1 (DARE1) optical fiber submarine cable route . Deployment of the telecom infrastructure and repeaters is expected to start in April 2019 for commissioning in June 2019.

The DARE1 system represents the first step of Djibouti Telecom in its conquest of the national and international digital world.

With this infrastructure with a total length of 4747 km, with a capacity of up to 36 T bps, linking the country to Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania even the incumbent wants to conquer Africa East then the world is connecting to other systems of optical fiber submarine.

Mohamed Assoweh Bouh, CEO of Djibouti Telecom, is eager to expand DARE1 to other parts of Africa and the world.

DARE1 is supported by the consortium composed by telecom operators Djibouti Telecom ,  Africa Marine  Express, Telesom Company, Hormuud Telecom, Somalia, Golis Telecom and Somtel. The telecom operator TeleYemen is also part of it because the underwater system has an extension to Yemen .
