Benin: ISOCEL officially launches in Sèmè City the first phase of deployment of its optical fiber network

ISOCEL has officially launched the first phase of deployment of its fiber optic network at the headquarters of the Sèmè City Development Agency in Cotonou.
This initial phase represents the deployment of a 70 Km long optical fiber access network in Cotonou’s neighborhoods. The infrastructure, already available in several areas of the city, will facilitate the migration of ISOCEL subscribers from wireless to optical fiber.
This step is part of a massive project of fiber optic network deployment in the Greater Cotonou area called iNGAN (iSOCEL Next Generation Access Network). By 2020, the network will be comprised of more than 450 Km of optical fiber to serve customers in the Economic Capital City of Benin.
Through this project, ISOCEL renews its commitment to offer ultra-high-speed Internet in order to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth.
The management team of ISOCEL plans to increase its investments in the digital sector to boost the economy, promote new technology and IT, and build new sectors of economic activity to increase job creation. ISOCEL will therefore be the leading champion of the efforts to position Benin as a regional tech hub.
At the end of the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officers of ISOCEL and Sèmè City signed a partnership agreement allowing the Sèmè City Development Agency to offer users of SCOP (Sèmè City Open Park) free access to ultra-high-speed Internet through the newly deployed iNGAN network.
With SCOP, the Sèmè City Development Agency provides school children, high school students, researchers, craftsmen, start-ups and innovative companies with a framework allowing access to computer-assisted design and manufacturing practices. This Open Park also offers the opportunity to conduct research and experimentation, particularly on the issues of smart and sustainable cities. SCOP is positioned as a place of collaboration and collective innovation where users from diverse backgrounds can collaborate.
