Mauritius Telecom launches mobile payment with technical support from PCCW Global


Mauritius Telecom, the incumbent telecommunications operator in Mauritius, has launched its mobile payment service nationwide. It was officially inaugurated on August 24, 2019 by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

The solution, named my.t money, provides an enhancement to financial inclusion with the expertise and experience of PCCW Global, the international arm of HKT, the leading telecommunications provider in Hong Kong.

Sherry Singh, chief executive officer of Mauritius Telecom, said “in terms of vision and ambition, Mauritius Telecom is not just launching another service. We intend to positively disrupt the payments industry. We are looking for a quick, easy and fun payment. 200,000 customers have already registered for the launch; we already have 1000 merchants and more than 200 loyalty partners . “

He said the ” my.t money ” service  is a map and a mobile app. Both are linked to help the customer make payments through the cell phone.

With my.t money, Mauritius Telecom customers will be able to instantly transfer money to relatives, facilitate the sharing of an invoice or an addition between friends or family members. Governed by Bank of Mauritius, the payment service is cloud-based with local hosting for sensitive consumer data.
