Benin: MTN entrusts Ericsson with the extension and modernization of its mobile network

The MTN mobile phone company has awarded the Swedish network and telecommunications company the extension and modernization of its mobile network throughout Benin. The operation, with a financial value of US $ 120 million (CFAF 71 billion), was the subject of a partnership agreement signed on October 24 between Stephen Blewett, MTN Benin’s managing director, and Mame Banda Sene, West Africa representative of Ericsson.
According to the boss of MTN Benin, ” this modernization aims to significantly improve the network through the development of coverage capabilities, the implementation of new radio sites in areas not yet covered, the development of existing sites through deployment. sophisticated technologies that will support the internet, objects and 5G . “
” Through this project, we will strive to make our network more efficient in order to equip the big cities with 4G technology and thus maintain the title of the fastest internet connection in Benin “. Better, the project will also strengthen the existing. ” We will also consolidate the performance of our 2G and 3G mobile networks and work toward 4G standardization across the country, ” added Stephen Blewett.
Ultimately, the project will take into account 853 existing sites, 213 new sites, for the technological deployment, including the extension of 3G coverage rate of 97% or 1076 sites deployed throughout the national territory. 4G will cover 61%, or 503 deployed sites.
