Morocco: Maroc Telecom achieved its 2019 objectives thanks to the data segment
February 20th 2020
The Maroc Telecom group has published its financial results for 2019. The company is delighted to have achieved its objectives for the year, which mainly concerned the stabilization of its turnover, profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) and its investment expenses (capex) excluding licenses and frequencies.
The company indeed recorded a total turnover of 36,517,000,000 Moroccan dirhams (3,755,842,026 US dollars), up 0.9% compared to the financial result of 2018. Its Ebitda increased by 3 , 2% compared to last year and its Capex has not grown too much. He believed 3.5%.
Maroc Telecom attributes this stability to the continuously growing data segment. Data has weighed heavily on the group’s revenues, both on its local market and in its eleven African subsidiaries.
Mobile revenue in Morocco stood at 14,276 million dirhams (1,468,313,409 US dollars), up 2.2%, driven by growth in Mobile data, whose traffic continues to grow significantly (+ 36% in 2019). The Fixed and Internet activities in Morocco generated a turnover of 9,261 million dirhams (952,511,241 US dollars), up 0.2%. Broadband customers grew 6.1% to 1.6 million subscribers.
Internationally, the group, which deplores a difficult competitive and regulatory context, recorded a turnover of 16,095 million dirhams (1,655,400,975 US dollars), up 0.3% at current exchange rates. The company said the performance was “mainly due to lower mobile termination rates and incoming revenues, and partially offset by the growth in Mobile data and Mobile Money services.”
Maroc Telecom, which is aware of the essential nature of data on the global telecoms market in the coming years, is determined to continue its investment efforts and the digitization of its services in 2020. The company plans to acquire new licenses 4G in its markets where the technology has not yet been launched. These are Mauritania, Niger and the Central African Republic.
