
Burkina Faso: Parliament has launched an inquiry into the mobile telephony segment

The Parliament of the Republic of Burkina Faso has decided to investigate the mobile telephony segment. The action comes after much criticism from consumers on both the quality of the services and the cost of the services.
During an interview with Sidwaya , deputy Issaka Congo of the parliamentary group of the Congress for Democracy and Progress, also chairman of the Commission of Inquiry on the mobile telephone system in Burkina Faso, explained that the objective “main of the commission is to find out about the quality of the services offered by the three mobile operators existing in Burkina Faso, namely Telmob, Orange-Burkina and Telecel Faso”.
“It is specifically a question of investigating the quality of the voice service, the quality of the internet data service, compliance with the specifications by the three mobile operators, the pricing system for the services offered to consumers.” The survey will also take into account the level of coverage of the national territory by the different companies (physical accessibility), compliance by said operators with the financial, tax and accounting regulations in force and, finally, the control system put in place by public services to ensure compliance with legislation by mobile operators, ” continued Issaka Congo.
To carry out the investigation, teams from the commission will be deployed in the field along previously defined axes to meet with mobile phone companies, the Authority for the regulation of electronic communications and posts and different actors with links with mobile telephony in Burkina Faso.
