Angolan Telecoms Minister launches sectoral containment emergency plan


Angola entered containment to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country. To this end, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology has drawn up a sectoral emergency plan, the objective of which is to guarantee the minimum provision of voice, messaging, Internet, postal and meteorological services to citizens and public and private entities.

The emergency plan, the Ministry of ICT declared that it is part of the “provisional presidential legislative decree n ° 1/20 of March 18 and in close coordination with the operators and providers of public and private services”. It provides that telecom operators make available to the public a free monthly package per subscriber, respecting several minimum parameters including the following: 45 minutes of voice calls and sending of 30 messages (SMS); access to electronic public services, the Ministry of Health portal and government portals, as well as 200 MB for data.

It is the Angolan Institute of Communications, the regulatory body for the ICT and telecoms market, that has been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring and controlling compliance with these measures in order to guarantee the continuity and stability of services. telecoms. Work in all organizations under the supervision of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology will be done online during this confinement period.
