MTN Congo launches a new product called “MoMoPay”

MTN Congo has the wind in its sails. Each day that passes, she dreams only of innovations. Today, the prowess of MTN Congo has crossed national borders. This subsidiary of the South African Group, a multinational telecommunications company operating in 22 countries in Africa and the Middle East, is making progress in the business world.

Despite the health crisis plaguing the world, particularly in the Congo, MTN Congo has just increased its innovation counter with the entry into service of a new product called ” MoMoPay  ” which is none other than a subset from Mobile Money.

The launch of this new product took place on Friday June 12, 2020 in the premises of the customer service of the general management of MTN Congo in Brazzaville, against the background of a press conference animated jointly by Thierry Boumba, Director Mobile Money and Jean Christophe Bobda, Director Marketing and Commercial of MTN Congo.

On this occasion, Thierry Boumba indicated that “ true to its vision of being at the forefront of providing a daring new digital world, and in order to support the government in its plan to respond to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus or Covid-19 , MTN Congo continues to provide its subscribers with electronic payment solutions aimed at limiting contamination, unlike tickets that pass through the hands of several people. To this end, MTN Congo is today launching a new product called MoMoPay, which is a value proposition addressed specifically to merchants who work in both the formal and informal sectors. Categories like shopkeepers, taximan and restaurants, will now have a device that will allow them to manage their activities by accepting Mobile Money payments with ease and security, while solving the currency problem. This offer also solves the problems of harassment linked to the long waits of customers at the checkout, but also those of theft and disappearance of money collected with Cash. “

So MoMoPay will contribute to changing the behavior of consumers and traders throughout the national territory. Thus, any merchant (seller in the state markets, shopkeeper, seller of breads or donuts, owners of bars, restaurants, hotels, pharmacies), subscribers to the MTN Congo network, holder of an active MTN Mobile Money account, can from present activate his MoMoPay account by dialing, from his mobile phone, the Code * 106 # OK and inviting his customers to settle the invoices via this payment channel.

To claim to pay a MoMoPay merchant, dial * 105 # OK and choose menu no. 6 “MoMoPay “, choose 1 Merchant payment , enter the merchant’s MoMoPay identifier consisting of six digits , enter the amount to be paid and less two minutes the payment is effective after validation of the personal Mobile Money Pin code .

This solution offers several advantages to traders such as secure payments, non-manipulation of fiat money in the context of a pandemic, earning commissions on the sale of MTN products, the possibility of transferring money to a bank account. , etc…

The Congolese are therefore invited to adopt this solution and ”  to pay for their purchases through MoMoPay in order to be able to minimize the risk of transmission of the Covid-19,  ” said Thierry Boumba.

For Jean Christophe Bobda, Marketing and Commercial Director of MTN Congo, the originality of this new product is that all social strata have access to MoMoPay, provided they have an MTN Mobile Money account. These transactions are free.

As a reminder, MTN Mobile Money was launched in February 2011 with the vision of advocating financial inclusion in the Congo, while complying with the regulatory framework put in place by the Central Bank. MTN Mobile Money is an electronic wallet, an instrument for rapid money transfer and electronic payment by mobile phone. Nine years later, it shows more than 70% of market share and more than 80% of number of transactions, thus consolidating MTN Congo’s position as leader on the Mobile Money market in the Republic of Congo.
