Mauritania: telecom operators again punished for poor quality of service

Mauritel, Mattel and Chinguitel were again punished by the telecoms regulator in Mauritania. The 3 operators were sentenced to a global fine of nearly $ 2.5 million for poor quality of service, following the results of the monitoring mission carried out from April 17 to May 22, 2020.
The mobile operators Mauritel (a subsidiary of Maroc Telecom), Mattel (a subsidiary of Tunisie Telecom) and Chinguitel (a subsidiary of Sudatel) were again subject to sanctions by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ARE) from Mauritania. They were ordered to pay a global sum of more than 95 million ouguiyas, or 2.5 million dollars, for “failures in the quality of service in several cities, localities, highways and agglomerations”.
The financial penalty against the three telecom companies stem from the results of the control operation carried out by the AER from April 17 to May 22, 2020. Mauritel was fined approximately 62 million ouguiyas. The Mauritanian-Tunisian telecommunications (Mattel) was thus fined 27.32 million ouguiyas. Chinguitel SA will have to pay the sum of 6 million ouguiyas.
This is the second sanction that the regulator has served telecommunications operators since the start of the year. The first occurred on January 2, 2020. Mauritel, Mattel and Chinguitel were fined 143.72 million ouguiyas ($ 3.7 million), again for breach of their quality obligations. service.
