Chad launches modernization of its electronic communications infrastructure

The government of Chad is initiating a modernization of its telecoms network. The operation involves the construction of a national data center, the deployment of nearly 2,000 km of optical fiber and the installation of 200 GSM relay antennas throughout the national territory.
The Chadian Ministry of Posts, New Information Technologies and Communication, and that of the Economy and Development Planning will officially launch the national project of modernization of infrastructures and electronic communications, this July 7, 2020 in N ‘Djamena. The initiative, whose final objective is better access to ICTs for the population and the digital transformation of the country, is divided into three components.
The first component relates to the construction of a national data center. Planned over an area of 2,000 m2 for a three-story building, the technological infrastructure will contribute to the storage and processing of digital state data.
The second component concerns the creation of a fiber optic network across the country. The network will be deployed over a distance of 1,200 km along the Doba-Koumra-Sarh-Kyabé-Amtiman-Abéché-Amzoer-Guéréda-Iriba axis. 50 km of optical fiber will link the city of N’Djamena, via a GPON access network (access technology allowing a reasonable cost of deployment for general public operators thanks to the pooling of the same telecoms infrastructure).
Finally, the third component provides for the modernization of the network of the Sotel Tchad telecoms group through the construction of 200 2G / 3G / 4G telecom sites, a core of the network, and the extension of capacity in number of subscribers from 300,000 to 1 000 000.
