West Africa: Rack Center announces $ 100 million to create West Africa’s largest data center

Faced with the growing demand for data centers in West Africa, Rack Center is committed to meeting it by building the largest storage infrastructure in the sub-region. 100 million USD will be invested. The money will be provided by Actis, the majority shareholder of Rack Center.

Rack Center (Tier 3 neutral data center that provides data colocation, interconnection and cloud services in Nigeria) announces an investment program to increase its total storage capacity in West Africa. The company will invest $ 100 million to deploy an additional 6,000 square meter storage space, providing 13 MW of computing power capacity, at its Lagos campus.

This expansion operation – which is in addition to the one already underway and which covers a storage space of 1,200 square meters for an existing capacity of 1.5 MW – aims to meet the growing demand for data centers in the sub-region, driven by the adoption of the cloud, increased investment in telecommunications and the outsourcing of IT facilities by companies.

Rack Center’s investment will come from a $ 250 million pan-African data center platform established by the company Actis, which in March 2020 took a majority stake in Rack Center.

Andile Ngcaba (President of Convergence Partners, Actis partner company in this pan-African platform) declared that she is delighted to contribute to the growth of a high quality data center infrastructure, which is essential for the founding of the 4th industrial revolution which will offer Africa the possibility of overcoming many challenges and exploiting the immense potential of its people.

Ayotunde Coker, Managing Director of Rack Center, added that the massive adoption of digital work models and content distribution are driving growing investments in the region, and the technology infrastructure looks forward to providing a world-class location to host these computer and telecommunications facilities.
