Côte d’Ivoire: La Poste will bring broadband to remote regions with the support of Eutelsat

In line with its operational and financial recovery plan adopted since 2013, La Poste is investing in the connectivity segment. The public company is counting on it to bring value-added services to a new niche of consumers.
The French company Eutelsat Communications has signed a framework agreement with its distribution partner InterSat for the provision of connectivity services to La Poste de Côte d’Ivoire. The multi-year agreement unveiled on Monday, January 18 provides for the connection of around 170 post offices to the Konnect satellite, allowing populations in remote areas to access high quality services.
According to Isaac Gnamba Yao, general manager of La Poste de Côte d’Ivoire, this agreement, which is part of a public-private partnership, “is one more action for La Poste de Côte d’Ivoire in the implementation of implementing its vision of “ Maison du Citoyen et des Entreprises, Courier of the State” ”. It will allow La Poste de Côte d’Ivoire to further diversify its activities and to move beyond the restricted framework of its sovereign mission of universal postal service for mail transport and related services.
The provision of high-speed Internet access to populations by La Poste is in line with its operational and financial recovery plan adopted since 2013 and one of the major projects of which is to boost the commercial offer through digital services value-added. It will also help increase the Internet coverage rate, which is 0.9% for fixed lines and 68.9% for mobile, according to the latest data from the telecoms regulator.
While the demand for connectivity is growing, La Poste Ivoirienne is positioning itself to give millions of Ivorians hitherto poorly covered in telecom services the means to remotely access government services, health care, to online education, to e-commerce.
