Congo Dem. Rep.: Orange signs a contract with NuRan to expand its services in rural areas

The government of DR Congo is determined to accelerate the digital transformation of the country. Operators will take part by providing access to telecoms to more people.
The mobile telephone operator Orange RDC has offered the technical expertise of the Canadian company NuRAN, specializing in the supply of mobile and broadband wireless infrastructure solutions, to extend access to its telecom services in the areas rural areas of the country. A contract was signed to this effect between the two parties on Friday February 5.
Under the terms of the agreement signed on the Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) model, NuRAN will build and operate over the next 40 months 2,000 new telecom towers for Orange DRC, to meet the demand for community connectivity. of about 5,000 inhabitants.
“ This is our second significant contract in Africa and with Orange after having already announced our agreement with Orange Cameroun SA […] Based on our estimates, the 2,000 towers will provide 2.75G connectivity to 10 million people , or 11.5% of the population of the DRC, who currently have to travel only to make a phone call , ”explained Francis Létourneau, CEO of NuRAN.
Orange DRC is investing in extending its network coverage to meet the demand for connectivity that is growing across the country. While the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, is determined to accelerate the digital transformation of the country, the telecoms company wants to contribute to it with regard to the economic challenges for it.
The contract signed with NuRAN will indeed allow the Congolese subsidiary of Orange to see its financial income increase. According to Ben Cheick Haidara, Chairman and CEO of Orange RD Congo, “ We are impressed with the technology and scalability that NuRAN brings to efficiently reach remote locations reliably, a key to sustaining GDP growth .”
