Telecom Egypt and Sudatel Group sign a cooperation agreement in the field of international connectivity

With the digital transformation accelerating, broadband is becoming a precious resource, guaranteeing good financial performance for many telecom companies. Well aware of this reality, Telecom Egypt and Sudatel are increasing their investments accordingly.
Telecom Egypt and Sudatel Group, the incumbent telecoms operators of Egypt and Sudan, signed a cooperation agreement in the field of international connectivity on Wednesday April 14th. The two countries envisage an optimal use of the terrestrial optical fiber network which connects them; the development of the latest technologies to support the transport of international traffic; as well as the connection of the Sudatel Group landing station (in Port Sudan) to the Telecom Egypt landing stations on the Red Sea.
According to Adel Hamed, CEO of Telecom Egypt, “ the signing of the memorandum of understanding with our Sudatel brothers will allow us to exchange experiences and maximize the benefits of the current connection between Egypt and Sudan, and to work to create new opportunities for international connectivity via submarine cables with the aim of pushing towards digital transformation in Egypt and in the region ”.
The investment initiated by Telecom Egypt with Sudatel Group is part of the efforts of the Egyptian public company to develop its broadband connectivity with neighboring countries and in the sub-region in order to become a benchmark operator. With the explosion in demand for broadband connectivity across Africa, Telecom Egypt’s ambition is to take an active part in the digital transformation on the continent.
Beyond the provision of connectivity in Africa, the investments initiated by Telecom Egypt to increase its Internet capacities, in particular by deploying new telecom equipment and by forging partnerships with other telecom groups, aim above all to guarantee it the maximum future income while data becomes a safe bet.
