Burkina Faso: Orange joins Onatel and CanalBox in the fiber optic segment and increases competition

The battle in the fiber optic segment is really underway in Burkina Faso. After Onatel last year and then GVA in early June, a new player has also scented the right vein in fixed connectivity. Orange relies on the quality of its services and its costs to win over its competitors.

The mobile operator Orange Burkina Faso has burst into the segment of fiber optic connectivity to individuals and businesses. The telecoms company officially launched the service last week in Ouagadougou in the presence of the Minister of Digital Economy, Posts and Digital Transformation, Hadja Fatimata Ouattara.

” In a context of the country’s digital transformation, accelerated by the Covid-19 health crisis, access to optical fiber is essential as a vector of growth and essential development. We have invested more than 300 billion FCFA in the renewal and development of new networks, especially very high speed both mobile with 4G, and fixed with fiber  ”, declared Mamadou Coulibaly, CEO of Orange Burkina. Faso.

Orange’s entry into the home fiber optic segment follows that of Group Vivendi Africa (GVA) with its CanalBox offer seven days earlier. The two companies have joined the National Telecommunications Office (Onatel), the incumbent operator, which entered the segment in 2020. They all have the ambition to revolutionize the way Burkinabés use the Internet. During the ceremony for placing their offers on the market, Orange, like its predecessors, announced high quality at more affordable prices for teleworking, videoconferencing, home automation, HD TV, online video games , etc.

With the optical fiber which offers a stable Internet connection, insensitive to bad weather, allowing to connect several equipments simultaneously, without impact on the quality of service, Mamadou Coulibaly is delighted with the position that Orange Burkina Faso will gain in the country as value-added service provider.
