
Egypt: IHS Towers settles in Egypt thanks to an agreement with Egypt Digital Company for Investment

The demand for telecom services has grown in Egypt since last year with the Covid-19. Telecom operators have made new investments in their networks to respond to them. IHS Towers sees an opportunity to save them money.
The manager of telecoms towers IHS Towers sets up in Egypt. On Wednesday, October 6, the company signed an agreement to this effect with Egypt Digital Company for Investment SAE, the largest shareholder of Egypt Towers for Technology Services Company. It was in the presence of Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies.
IHS Telecom Towers Egypt SAE, the consortium formed by the two partners – 80% owned by IHS Towers and 20% by Egypt Digital Company for Investment – is in the process of obtaining a license to erect and lease telecommunications towers in Egypt.

Since 2019, the Egyptian government has initiated the “Decent Life” project with a view to improving the living conditions of the populations. In its “Telecoms” section, it promotes the improvement of broadband access. Through their partnership, IHS Towers and Egypt Digital Company for Investment are positioned to meet the needs of the Egyptian market for wireless telecommunications towers and help achieve the national coverage of telecom services requested from operators by the government.
Under the license they will obtain by the end of the week, IHS Towers and Egypt Digital Company for Investment say they will be able to build up to 5,800 towers in the first three years in addition to acquiring equipment belonging to third parties.
