Djibouti Telecom begins construction of new cable landing station
October 17th 2021
Djibouti Telecom has started construction of a New Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Djibouti City. It is designed as a neutral digital port to provide an open access cable landing service for subsea cable operators. It will have three floors, each with a 250 square meter equipment room, and the third floor reserved for colocation. The CLS is due for completion in April 2022.
The neutral colocation centre will allow GAFAM (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft) or cloud providers to host their servers closer to their African users. In the past ten years, Djibouti Telecom has invested over USD 200 million in new submarine cables and terrestrial networks to deal with the tenfold increase in internet traffic in Africa every five years.
