Egypt: Etisalat Misr announces an investment of $ 318 million for the extension of its network in 2022
November 12th 2021
Since last year, rural areas have been at the heart of the growing demand for telecom services in Egypt. Etisalat Misr, like its competitors, has decided to give it more commitments. The company is looking for new sources of income.
Hazem Metwally, chairman and CEO of mobile operator Etisalat Misr, said the company plans to invest 5 billion Egyptian pounds ($ 318 million) next year for the extension of its telecoms network in Egypt. He unveiled it during an interview with CNBC Arabia on Tuesday, November 9, on the sidelines of the Cairo ICT 2021 fair which was held in the Egyptian capital from November 7 to 10.
During this exchange with the press organ, the boss of the country’s fourth largest telecoms company in terms of market share said that investments in 5G are also being considered. He revealed that the company is looking forward to bringing this technology to the country, as soon as possible. Etisalat Misr has already successfully tested this mobile technology with support from Ericsson during Cairo ICT 2019.
The new investment announced by Etisalat Misr in its telecoms network in 2022 is in line with that initiated in 2021. In 2020, 4.5 billion Egyptian pounds had been injected into the company for the development of the telecoms infrastructure and services. The telecoms company is maintaining its investment at roughly the same level in the country in view of the demand for high-speed connectivity which has exploded since 2020 with the Covid-19.
Currently, all the telecom operators present in the Egyptian market – Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, Etisalat Misr – are making the extension of their network a priority. They mainly target rural areas that have long been poorly covered or not at all, and to which the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ANRT) has decided to pay more attention to allow everyone to benefit from the digital transformation. that the government has decided to accelerate.
