CSquared started its activities in DR Congo with the ambition to make broadband connectivity more affordable
November 30th 2021
Since last year, the broadband connectivity market in DR Congo has been seducing. The low internet penetration rate and the growing demand for broadband have attracted many international and local investors. The competition promises to be tough to the delight of consumers.
The CSquared company, specializing in the construction and operation of fiber optic networks in Africa, officially started its activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Friday, November 26. During the press conference organized on this occasion, Lanre Kolade, its Chairman and CEO, unveiled his ambition to make high-speed Internet access more affordable for populations across the entire Congolese territory. .
Lanre Kolade declared that ” CSquared intends to play a decisive role, because we now know that for a country like the DRC the development of telecoms and the digital economy is essential, and that the basis of this development rests on optical fiber ” . Following him, Alain Malanda, CEO of CSquared RDC, clarified that “ we are not in competition with mobile network operators (MNOs) or Internet service providers (ISPs). Rather, we operate an optical fiber infrastructure whose access is open, reliable and affordable to any operator ”.
The DR Congo Internet market is currently highly coveted. The demand for connectivity that develops there after the Covid-19 has pushed several local and even international companies to invest there. Facebook and Google are among them. CSquared’s investment in the Democratic Republic of the Congo falls within the framework of the development strategy of its activity on the continent.
Already present in Liberia, Kenya, Uganda and Ghana, CSquared will battle on the Congolese market with nine other fiber optic network operators already well established, including the Vivendi Africa RDC SAS group, Liquid Telecom DRC Sarl. The company relies on its expertise acquired over many years of practice to stand out in this new market with high potential due to its large population estimated at 93.3 million individuals, according to worldometers.info , and the low rate of Internet penetration, 23.2%, according to the 2021 Digital Report from Hootsuite and We Are Social.
